From representing the essence of Barcelona to shining at Miss Intercontinental, Rebeca shares with us how this journey has marked her life. In this interview, we explore the impact of beauty pageants, their link to self-care, and how brands like OhMyKoko redefine beauty with ethical and natural products.
THE EXPERIENCE OF REPRESENTING BARCELONA
How has your experience been representing Barcelona at Miss Intercontinental Barcelona?
“Representing Barcelona is an honour and a great opportunity to highlight its beauty and potential. Miss Intercontinental Spain has connected me with other more experienced participants, who have helped me improve my communication skills and strengthen my confidence. In addition, it has motivated me to continue training in both personal development and the care of external beauty.”

THE IMPACT OF BEAUTY PAGEANTS
What values do you think a pageant like this brings to the women who participate and to the public that follows it?
“The experiences and learning you gain when you participate in a pageant are indescribable. Contrary to what many people think, it is much more than a physical beauty competition; it promotes female empowerment, self-confidence and the importance of working towards our dreams. They teach us to be perseverant, to collaborate with other women and to be role models for future generations, offering a positive message about authenticity, discipline and diversity.”

BEAUTY WITH PURPOSE: SKIN ACTIVISM
In a world that sometimes associates these contests with superficiality, how do you think they can contribute to important causes or generate a positive impact?
“Despite stereotypes, I can say first-hand that pageants have the potential to go beyond aesthetics, even becoming a driving force for change. Many participants help transform the perception of 'being beautiful' and promote important causes such as gender equality, mental health and the environment.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF SKIN CARE WITH NATURAL PRODUCTS
As a beauty ambassador, what do you think about the importance of taking care of your skin with natural and environmentally friendly products like those from OhMyKoko?
“I always try to educate myself about the products I use regularly in order to prioritise natural and ethical products. Skincare is just as important as choosing chemical-free and environmentally friendly products like those from OhMyKoko, which promote a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle, helping the health of our skin and the planet.”
THE CONCEPT OF "SKIN ACTIVISM"
OhMyKoko is the first skin activist brand. What does the concept of “skin activism” mean to you?
"For me, 'skin activism' is an approach that goes beyond traditional cosmetics. It means a commitment to the well-being of the skin, having the utmost respect for the environment and promoting transparency and ethics. This movement seeks your well-being and that of the planet alike, making self-care part of a greater cause."

OHMYKOKO'S FAVORITE PRODUCT
If you could choose one OhMyKoko product to recommend to your followers, which one would it be and why?
"Without a doubt, the facial cleanser. The most important step in my skincare routine is cleansing before and after applying makeup. It is a natural and multifunctional treatment: it cleanses, exfoliates and removes makeup, saving a lot of time. It is not aggressive on my sensitive and atopic skin, and also leaves a soft and shiny finish. It is one of my essentials and the one I recommend the most."
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MIND AND THE SKIN
You are studying Psychology, a career that is deeply connected to well-being. How do you think the mind and skin are related?
“Mental health has a direct relationship with our skin. Stress, anxiety and other emotional issues can manifest physically, affecting our skin. For example, stress can trigger acne, psoriasis or eczema flare-ups. Therefore, a comprehensive approach that considers both emotional and physical well-being is essential for healthy skin and overall balance.”
BEAUTY AND SELF-ESTEEM IN A WORLD OF STANDARDS
From your perspective as a future psychologist, what impact do you think beauty standards have on self-esteem and how could we encourage a healthier view of beauty?
“We were just discussing in class the other day about the beauty standards imposed by the media. We came to the conclusion that these have a negative impact on self-esteem, creating insecurities and promoting unrealistic comparisons. It is crucial to foster a more inclusive and diverse vision of beauty, where every person feels accepted as they are. Promoting self-compassion, acceptance of diversity and a focus on emotional well-being can help people build a healthier relationship with their body and image.”

BALANCING STUDIES, THE COMPETITION AND PERSONAL LIFE
How do you manage the balance between your studies, the competition and your personal life?
“The key is organization. Every week I update my agenda and plan my schedule. Having a clear plan allows me to dedicate enough time to my studies, training for the competition and spending quality time with myself or with family/friends. It is true that, like everything, it involves some sacrifice; I have had to reject many plans in order not to overload myself. This balance allows me to move forward and keeps me motivated and focused on my goals.”
ADVICE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WITH GREAT ASPIRATIONS
What advice would you give to young women who aspire to excel in their professional careers and personal care?
“My advice is to never stop learning and growing. Education and self-care should be priorities and are 100% compatible. It is important to have confidence in your abilities and maintain a positive attitude towards challenges. You should always give your best in everything you do and pursue what you want until you achieve it. All without neglecting mental health; emotional balance is essential for success and well-being in all aspects of life.”

TRUE BEAUTY BEGINS FROM WITHIN
What does the phrase “beauty begins from within” mean to you?
“True beauty does not depend only on what we see in the mirror. The way we feel about ourselves, our emotions, values and inner thoughts are reflected on our exterior and are what really make us beautiful. Taking care of our mental health, cultivating inner peace and genuine self-esteem is the basis for projecting authentic and lasting beauty.”
