INTERVIEW WITH JENIFER IZQUIERDO, MICROPIGMENTATION EXPERT
Jenifer Izquierdo is a dedicated professional and passionate about micropigmentation .
In addition to being a trainer and creator of interviews in this sector, this year she will be a Judge of Good Practices at a conference in Madrid and a Jury and Demo Artist at another event in Barcelona.
In this interview, Jenifer will share with us how micropigmentation not only beautifies, but also transforms lives , especially for people who have faced difficulties such as eyebrow loss after medical treatments. Don't miss this inspiring conversation!
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO SPECIALIZE IN MICROPIGMENTATION AND WHAT BENEFITS DOES IT BRING?
I came from the beauty industry and I was passionate about the world of makeup and eyebrow design is my passion. Although it is true that I started in this sector out of desperation, motivated because my beauty business was not going well, I was practically broke and I needed to include high-value services, that's how I started in this world and thanks to that I discovered my true vocation, helping people feel better about themselves.
The benefits are many, mainly those who come to see us do so because there is something about their appearance that they are not happy with, many times it is even the result of some illness , in short, they come with low self-esteem and need our help.
We have here a psychological benefit, also a physical benefit obviously, since they want to improve something about their physical appearance.
With micropigmentation we can camouflage scars , correct asymmetry , improve the design of eyebrows , eyes , lips and also the newest is capillary micropigmentation , a fast, painless and surgery-free treatment that is the alternative for those who suffer from alopecia, lack of density and have complexes about them, this is for both men and women.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE MICROPIGMENTATION TO THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW IT?
Micropigmentation is a treatment that consists of implanting pigment in the area that we want to improve or correct. It is worked superficially in the dermis, so it is not permanent and is not a tattoo.
There are multiple techniques in micropigmentation, each time with more natural and realistic results. In eyebrows, for example, there is Microblading , Shading , Realism , Combined techniques (combining several techniques).
The difference between microblading and other techniques is that microblading is performed with a tebori (a manual pen) and the others with a dermograph (electric or battery-powered device).
Depending on the type of skin the person wants to achieve and the effect they want to achieve, one technique or another is used.
WHAT AESTHETIC BENEFITS DOES MICROPIGMENTATION OFFER TO PEOPLE?
With eyebrow micropigmentation we can achieve a lifting effect without the need for surgery, we can fill in gaps where the hair does not grow, we can give a density effect to provide more definition to the eyebrows, we can correct asymmetries and camouflage scars , in cases of alopecia or people with excessive hair removal we can recreate a super natural realistic eyebrow, returning expression to their look.
In the case of the lips we can achieve a lipstick effect (you can choose any colour) seeking daily comfort without having to put on make-up, you can improve the shape and give a volume effect (many people lose the pigmentation of the edges of the lip giving the effect of a small lip, by returning the colour to those edges we achieve a very natural effect and it seems as if we have bigger lips), also in cases of cleft lips it is a great help to camouflage the scars and improve the appearance of the lip.
"We can camouflage scars, correct asymmetry, improve the design of eyebrows, eyes, lips and also the newest is hair micropigmentation, a fast, painless and surgery-free treatment that is the alternative for those who suffer from alopecia, lack of density and have complexes about them, this is for both men and women."
And in the case of the eyes, there are many people who do not know how to apply eye makeup, or do not have a steady hand or good technique, or their eyes water and the makeup comes off and they want to get micropigmentation to fix it. We have the classic Eyeliner and Softliner effect (soft eyeliner plus soft shading), you can also do just the eyeliner between the lashes , to give the effect of having more lashes.
HOW DOES MICROPIGMENTATION IMPACT PEOPLE'S SELF-ESTEEM?
These treatments, carried out by trained professionals, have a hugely positive impact. They restore the self-esteem of our clients. Many come after going through bad times and looking better when they leave is a boost of positive energy for everyone.
I also want to emphasize the need for trained professionals because just as there are spectacular jobs, we also receive poorly performed treatments every day for us to fix, most of them carried out in places without experience where the cost is very cheap, but I would like to remember that cheap things always end up being expensive and that something that is in our face and is our health cannot be left in the hands of just anyone.
AND WHAT IMPACT DOES IT HAVE ON PEOPLE WHO HAVE UNDERGONE CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENTS?
In the case of cancer patients , the impact is brutal. I cannot describe in words the feeling and satisfaction I feel every time I can help them and I feel their excitement and gratitude. It is an incredible boost for their strength and self-esteem .
HOW DO YOU ADAPT THE TREATMENT TO COVER SCARS OR PROBLEMATIC AREAS OF THE SKIN?
We always start by making a facial design, where according to the measurements of the client's face we will be given some frames. Within these frames we will have to take into account the scars or areas that cannot be pigmented, such as moles or warts . We always inform them of absolutely everything, then we show the design and discuss whether they are happy with it or would like to change something...
"It restores the self-esteem and security of our clients, many come after going through bad times and looking better when they leave is a "a shot of positive energy for everyone."
Personally, I always like to work cautiously. I prefer to stay short of everything in the first session (color, width, length, etc.) and in the touch-up that is done the month after the client has gotten used to seeing themselves with their new eyebrows, if anything needs to be added, then it is added. From less to more we can always add, on the contrary, it is more complicated.
WHAT ARE THE CURRENT TRENDS IN MICROPIGMENTATION AND EYEBROW AESTHETICS?
Fortunately, more and more people are looking for a natural result and micropigmentation has evolved a lot over the years. We have a trend in the realistic hair-by-hair technique that we work with a dermograph and the fairy dust effect , which is a very soft and subtle shading that provides density and definition in a very natural way.
WHAT PROTOCOL DO YOU FOLLOW TO ENSURE SAFETY AND QUALITY IN EACH TREATMENT?
First of all, we carry out a health questionnaire prior to the treatment, where we see if there are any contraindications for carrying out said treatment, then we make a design so that the client can see what the final result would be like, if they are satisfied, we begin the treatment.
We use disposable materials and those that are not disposable must be properly sterilized .
We always work with quality materials and pigments to achieve optimal results and ensure that the color remains the same over time without changing tones over the months.
HOW HAS MICROPIGMENTATION EVOLVED SINCE YOU STARTED?
Very much so, both the technique and the result sought are focused on something natural , since the face ages and changes over time, as do the measurements of the face, which is why if we carry out a treatment that has a certain duration , after that time we can redesign it adapting it to its new measurements.
COULD YOU SHARE A STORY THAT LEFT YOU PARTICULARLY SATISFIED?
I couldn't choose just one in particular because I feel very fortunate among all the people I have been able to help feel better. It is true that in the case of cancer patients and patients with alopecia, the change and the impact it has on their self-esteem is tremendous and very enriching for me as a professional.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND TO SOMEONE WHO IS CONSIDERING THIS TECHNIQUE, WHETHER FOR AESTHETIC OR HEALTH REASONS?
First of all, gather a lot of information about the treatment, look for a center with references and good reviews, if you know someone who has undergone treatment there, even better.
Be aware that a facial treatment that lasts between 2 and 3 years depending on the area to be treated and the technique, is not something that just anyone can afford.
"Do not apply facial cosmetics with any type of acid due to its depigmenting properties, such as retinol, as this will shorten the duration of the treatment."
Specialization courses and advanced techniques are not cheap and a professional who is constantly training and growing cannot give away his work.
On an emotional level, any of these treatments gives a boost to mood and self-esteem . I recommend that anyone who is unhappy with something about their face should try one of these treatments.
HOW IMPORTANT IS POST-TREATMENT CARE TO ENSURE GOOD RESULTS?
50% of the success of the treatment is due to the aftercare and following the healing protocol recommended by the professional. In my case, I tell them to keep the treated area clean and moisturized for a week, and we give them a kit of aftercare cream.
"Natural and vegan cosmetics like those from OhMyKoko seem to me to be a perfect alternative for subsequent skin care, they are a good combination."
It is also essential not to expose yourself to the sun , sea , swimming pools , saunas or sweat for a week.
HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SEE THE POSITIVE IMPACT YOUR WORK HAS?
I feel extremely grateful , proud and happy about the impact my work has on other lives. I am so passionate about what I do that I don't feel like I'm working when I perform the procedures. It fills your soul and makes you get up every day with a purpose and unwavering energy.
HOW IMPORTANT IS SKIN HYDRATION AFTER MICROPIGMENTATION TREATMENT?
It is super important. We must keep the area hydrated to prevent scabs from forming, as this would cause pigment loss.
However, I always recommend that after the week of aftercare, and for the duration of the treatment, do not apply facial cosmetics with any type of acid due to its depigmenting properties, such as retinol , as this will shorten the treatment.
HOW DO YOU THINK NATURAL AND VEGAN COSMETIC PRODUCTS, LIKE THOSE FROM OHMYKOKO, CAN CONTRIBUTE TO POST-TREATMENT CARE?
Well, it seems like a perfect alternative to me, natural and vegan products are a good combination for healing.
